Outstanding professional support services award

Michelle Kipling Alliance Manchester Business School Business in the Community (BiTC) Business Class Partnership with Whalley Range and Levenshulme High School Education and Leadership Trust

The BiTC believe that working in long-term partnership with schools is one of the most effective ways for business to support young people from deprived backgrounds. Michelle developed and manages this innovative programme designed to raise aspirations, improve behaviour and support school staff. It gives University staff and student volunteers an opportunity to provide a range of activities based on the specific needs of the school, including leadership training, mentoring, University visit days and lectures, on-campus careers conferences and the Inspiring Women’s Conference.

Michelle says: “Winning the award for my work with our Business Class Partner Schools led me to being invited to speak at our annual PSS Conference. This created a great buzz about the Partnership amongst my colleagues and the impact the initiative has had over the last two years."

"Following the Conference an opportunity came up at Whalley Range where I needed to recruit volunteers for one of their events. The response was massive and eventually oversubscribed. Moving into our final year of the partnership I am very excited about the level of support we will receive – none of which would have happened had it not been for the award raising the profile of the work we are trying to do.”
