Engagement@Manchester is a series of lunchtime meetings exploring different aspects of public engagement. All University staff and students are welcome to attend these free events. No registration required – just pop along.

The next meeting will focus on Engaging in Unusual Places and take place on Wednesday 19 February 2014, 1-2pm, Kanaris Theatre, Manchester Museum.

We are often looking for new ways of working and reaching out to new communities. This event will showcase a few innovative projects where engagement has happened in unexpected places. We will explore the significant benefits of doing things differently and how to overcome the challenges. We hope you’ll leave enthused about trying something new.

Speakers:

  • Katie Steckles is a mathematician and maths communicator. She will share her experience from Maths ‘Busking’ out on the streets and running Bright Clubs (stand-up comedy nights about research).
  • Kate Dack works on public engagement at Nowgen in the University of Manchester. She is going to compare events run in the city centre and on the University campus.
  • Claire Turner is the Director of the Manchester Histories Festival. She will describe a few of the creative ways she has engaged with the public in unusual spaces.

After the short presentations it would be great to have a discussion about your experiences and ideas.
