Tuesday 7 June saw the annual Sustainability Roundtable event at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The National Union for Students (NUS) event was a chance for those delivering, or interested in delivering, any NUS sustainability engagement programmes to come together for a day of discussion, idea development and sharing of good environmental sustainable practice. The discussions that took place at the Roundtable will influence how NUS programmes like Green Impact and Student Switch Off are inspiring students and staff across UK University’s to engage with best practice in sustainability. Student Switch Off is an energy saving campaign aimed to lower the consumption of electricity within student residences. Green Impact is an NUS lead behavioural change program providing staff within Higher Education institutions the opportunity to make positive actions from reducing waste in the workplace, to setting up a new ethical credit union.

The day’s program started with a discussion about how to ensure students’ progress on education for sustainable development pathways through involvement with the programme, maintaining enthusiasm and budget and funding. Attendees celebrated the national Green Impact special award winners, and discussing funding we have to help establish entrepreneurial food growing spaces.
