Ready, Set, Mobike!

Mon, 26 Jun 2017 15:10:00 BST

Mobike, China's biggest and fastest growing bike-share scheme, is launching in Manchester at the end of June. Mobike have been working with agencies and councils across Greater Manchester (Transport for Greater Manchester, councils in Manchester, Salford and Trafford, the Manchester-China Forum, MIDAS and others) to make this a reality.

Beijing-based Mobike runs more than 100 cycle hire schemes across Singapore and China. The scheme will launch in Manchester and Salford. The cycles are high-tech aluminium machines with airless tyres, a GPS tracker, built-in lock and a cashless smartphone app. By downloading the app, finding a nearby Mobike and scanning its code, users can easily pick up the bikes and get riding. Mobike is a dockless bike scheme, providing an accessible and affordable mode of transport that will help tackle congestion and pollution and make Manchester healthier, cleaner and more fun to explore.

The University of Manchester is partnering with Mobike to bring the initiative to campus and provide staff and students with the opportunity to take part.
