Staff from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health volunteered at The Mustard Tree, a charity that has been transforming the lives of people who are trapped in poverty or homelessness in Greater Manchester, since 1994.

In the past couple of years alone the streets of Greater Manchester have seen a 24% increase in homelessness. Due to this increase, organisations like Mustard Tree are in demand now more than ever. They offer food and clothing to immediately help those in crisis, and for long term solutions they offer training, education, and employment opportunities. Their aim is to help people to escape poverty and homelessness – for good.

The Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment team spent 3 days assisting Mustard Tree’s headquarters relocation, loading and unloading moving vans, relocating furniture, decorating office spaces, sorting through stock and getting to know the Mustard Tree community.

Dr Hawys Williams, Social Responsibility and Public Engagement Manager commented: “Being part of the relocation project was an unforgettably rewarding and enlightening experience. It allowed us to contribute to the much needed facilities that make an incredible difference to people in time of need. We discovered new skills, made new friends and were truly inspired by the Mustard Tree’s ethos.”
