As part of our work to address inequalities and to align this with our research beacon of Addressing Global Inequalities, The University will be hosting a free public film screening at the John Rylands Library on Thursday 10 November. This screening is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science and open to everyone in Manchester who would like to watch the social commentary documentary, The Divide – a story of seven individuals striving for better lives in the US and UK where the top 1% owns as much wealth as the bottom 90%.

Inspired by the best-selling book “The Spirit Level,” these real stories uncover how virtually every aspect of our lives is controlled by the divide between rich and poor.

Professor David Hulme of The University of Manchester’s Global Development Institute will give a post-screening Q&A on how we address such global inequalities – a research area where the University of Manchester is known and regarded for its pioneering discoveries, collaboration and cross-sector partnerships tackling some of the biggest questions facing the planet.
