Your giving set to inspire others

The total figure donated by our staff to charities via our Payroll Giving Scheme has exceeded £1million. This figure represents donations since 2005, over half of which has been donated since the scheme was relaunched in 2014.

This fantastic achievement has been recognised by the Charities Aid Foundation who recently interviewed Vanessa Cowan the Reward, Wellbeing and Benefits Advisor about our Payroll Giving Scheme and Helen Davies, from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, to get their views on what regular charity giving means to them.

The Charities Aid Foundation have shared the interview through their social media platforms and with other Universities directly to inspire them to promote their GAYE (Give as you earn) scheme internally.

Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources, said: “It is wonderful hearing that the generosity of staff to charities via our Payroll Giving Scheme is being used as inspiration to other universities and employers.”

Helen Davies chose to donate to CALM, a mental health charity, after losing someone close to her to suicide: “I think it is very important that my employer provides this service. It benefits charities and allows the people who donate to feel they are doing something worthwhile and helping causes they believe in. It also shows what a difference people can make as individuals and as part of a wider working community.”
