Social Responsibility

Inspiring Communities

The University is one of the first institutions in the world to include social responsibility as one of its strategic goals in the Manchester 2020 Strategic Plan.

We already have a good reputation for the quality and impact of its activities engaging with local communities. Inspiring Communities has been developed to move us from good to great in this area.

Our Inspiring Communities plan aims to address the mutual priorities in our surrounding neighbourhoods for the benefit of both the University and our local community. This will be achieved through the work of our researchers, our student volunteers, our public events and our visitor attractions.

We have categorized our work into three zones, the communities neighbouring our campus, the rest of Greater Manchester and then the surrounding areas in the North West where the University has a presence.

The guiding principles and values that underpin Inspiring Communities include:

  • Inclusivity
  • Mutuality
  • Openness
  • Humility
  • Integrity
