NAYS Social Projects addressing inequality in Indonesia
NAYS Social Projects are a community empowerment program that seek to provide a platform and forum for Indonesia’s youth to apply and share their knowledge in addressing various issues in remote areas of Indonesia, where there is still significant inequality in access to essential sectors like education, economics, health, and the environment. The initiative received a Making a Difference Award for its outstanding contribution to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Since the first project in 2018, the NAYS Social Projects have been held in 12 different villages over six years. The main objective of this activity is to transfer knowledge from the younger generation and overcome various inequalities in the education sector. This is achieved through the establishment of libraries and reading facilities. The program also aims to provide adequate healthcare access to the community through free health examinations and counselling, as well as empower the community’s economy while maintaining environmental sustainability.
Muhammad Arinal Haq, the Organisational Advisor for NAYS Indonesia, said: “The NAYS Social Projects have also empowered the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and tourism sectors through training and social media utilization, enhancing local business marketing and regional tourism branding.”
“The program allows us to collaborate and provide useful reports on village conditions to relevant stakeholders. Importantly, hundreds of volunteers have gained valuable experience, and many have been inspired to start similar communities and social projects in various regions.”
When asked about winning a Making a Difference Award, Muhammad said: “Receiving the Making a Difference award is a great honour and a source of pride for NAYS Indonesia. As our first award, it motivates and encourages us to continue running this social project sustainably. This recognition not only raises awareness and garners more support for our cause but also paves the way for future collaborations, enabling us to achieve a more substantial and widespread impact.”
