Get A Head and Get Ahead: ‘Self-help’ Science of Phrenology

On Thursday 12 May, from 5.30 – 7pm, the Museum of Medicine and Health will hold the Get A Head and Get Ahead: ‘Self-help’ Science of Phrenology, event in the Kanaris Lecture Theatre at Manchester Museum.

The event is part of a the ‘artefact talk’ series. The Museum of Medicine and Health will welcome Dr Jane Gregory, Lecturer in Science Communication in the Faculty of Life Sciences to speak at the event.

Dr Gregory uses items from the Museum of Medicine and Health to explore the ‘self-help science’ of phrenology, about heads, faces and personality, which was hugely popular in the 1800s. As fortune rose and fell and workers flocked to the cities, phrenology helped us to find our way in the new industrial world of cities and strangers.

This event is open to everyone and is aimed at over 16 yrs. Tickets are free and booking is advisable.

Book at place at the event via the Eventbrite page.
