Operation Santa Claus MBA Challenge Team win 3 Awards among strong rivals!

Operation Santa Claus MBA Challenge, is an annual fundraising campaign in Hong Kong which jointly organised by South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong. The Challenge encourages Hong Kong’s future business leaders to utilize their innovation, creativity and business savvy to raise funds to society through innovative fundraising activities.

A team of seven MBA students from The University of Manchester Worldwide Hong Kong Centre – Janny Shum, Stephanie Hui, Kristie Lam, Mimi Chong, Chapin Chak, Rex Kan and Stefan Lam, formed the ‘Ginger Heart’ team, they have also been active in fundraising for a number of charities, with the aim of benefiting the underprivileged in the region. They raised funds by offering Christmas gift packages to donors, including baked goods, luxury toiletries and shopping mall vouchers, given to the group by its sponsors. The project started from scratch and the students spent the time outside of their full-time work, workshops and examinations, to design and execute the fund raising plan – Ginger Heart Charity Sales.

The team, with their enormous efforts, not only exceeded the fund-raising target and closed at HK$280,000, they also won all the Top 3 Awards: Top Fundraiser Award, Fringebacker Outstanding Online Fundraiser Award and Champion of Best Santa in Community Contribution. The event raised HK$868,045 in total – made up of HK$657,045 raised by the teams.

ACCA Community Day 2017 – Charity Rickshaw Race

The University of Manchester Worldwide supports the University’s Social Responsibility policy especially in charitable activities. As part of this good work, Hong Kong Centre has sponsored the ACCA Community Day since 2006. We aim to contribute to the community by helping those in need. This year, 20th ACCA Community Day and the Rickshaw Race took place on Sunday 15 January 2017.

Bringing together hundreds of participants from accountancy firms, multinational companies, corporations and institutions, this year’s rickshaw race raised over HK$1.4 million, a record high, with donations going to Hong Chi Association, Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, and Jubilee Ministries. This event is also accredited as a celebration activity for HKSAR 20th Anniversary.

The event started with the costume parade and the exciting moment of the event was the Rickshaw Race. Together with support from friends and family, Hong Kong Centre also organized a cheering team to support our participating rickshaw team, formed of seven MBA students and alumni. The high team spirits created a warm atmosphere despite cold weather.
