Opportunity for students to learn about SDGs

The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world’s call to action on the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing humanity and the natural world. We’re playing a leading role in tackling these goals through our four pillars of action: research impact, learning and students, public engagement activity and responsible campus processes.

As part of this, we’re committed to empowering students with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to understand and address all of the SDGs. This year we have a new opportunity for all students to undertake a sector-leading online credit-bearing UCIL unit that specifically addresses all 17 SDGs: ‘Creating a sustainable world: 21st century challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The quality and scale of our impact against the SDGs has been ranked first in the UK and second in Europe in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings (2020). We hope this year’s new module will continue to improve the scale of the impact which our University generates, by engaging more students directly with the Sustainable Development Goals, and hopefully inciting further action.

Our students can learn more about the UCIL unit, try a taster session, and/or select it as an optional module next year by going to the UCIL website. We are asking our academic staff to share this unit with students and encourage them to be a part of our leading action on tackling the SDGs: Units (The University of Manchester)
