School of Law Legal Advice Centre

The School of Law’s Legal Advice Centre (LAC) is holding its 2018 Student Summer Vacation Scheme, from 18– 29 June.

The LAC is the School’s flagship initiative to provide students with hands-on legal experience, through interviewing and advising members of the public unable to access free or affordable legal advice.

The Vacation Scheme is a concentrated period of 2 weeks, during which a selected group of students spend time during the first week in appointments, providing help to clients through interviewing, researching the law and preparing a letter of advice. This year advice will be provided in the areas of family, employment, mental capacity, wills & probate and housing law.

In the second week, the wider Law School in conjunction with the University of Law, organises student participation in a wide range of employability-related activities: working on their CVs, attending talks by lawyers in practice and having the opportunity to take part in mock job interviews. The Vacation Scheme is a great way for students to contribute something to the community whilst also enhancing their own skills and employment prospects.
