Success for the Legal Advice Centre at the Manchester Legal Awards

Earlier this month the School of Law were delighted to hear that the Legal Advice Centre had won the Best Pro Bono/Community Initiative at the Manchester Legal Awards 2017 for their Dementia Law Clinic run in partnership with national mental health charity Making Space.

The award was presented at a dinner at the Midland Hotel, hosted by the Manchester Law Society, where the Dementia Law Clinic was honoured to be amongst the best and the brightest in the Manchester legal sector. This award, the third the Clinic has received since it was first piloted in 2015, shows the strength and quality of work that our students do here at the Legal Advice Centre.

As well as the partners Making Space, without whom the Centre would not be able to reach as many clients, thanks goes to the outstanding volunteer lawyers who supervise the students. It is because of their dedication and commitment that the clinic has been able to grow to the level that it has. Following this success the plan is to develop the Dementia Law Clinic even further, including reaching more people in rural areas. With lots of changes taking place at the Legal Advice Centre in recent months the Centre is looking forward to a big, bright future that will be of great benefit to our students and further establish the University of Manchester as a leader in Clinical Legal Education.
