University awarded the gold standard for sustainable travel

The University has been awarded the gold standard of Transport for Greater Manchester’s new Travel Choices accreditation scheme. The scheme celebrates the success of businesses which have championed sustainable travel and are rewarding companies which have taken steps to reduce their impact on the environment by highlighting them as regional leaders in the field.

The accreditation scheme sees businesses recognised publicly for their sustainable travel ambition by awarding them with either a bronze, silver or gold standard.

The judges’ criteria includes the length of time the company has been taking action, how comprehensive the projects have been and the impact on congestion and the environment.

Julian Ashworth, Travel Choices Manager, said: “We know there are lots of companies across Greater Manchester working really hard to embed sustainable travel in their business – the accreditation scheme is about rewarding this commitment and encouraging others to follow in their footsteps.”

The University was presented with the award at a Travel Choices Celebration event on 27 April where our energy and commitment in helping reduce congestion, enhance the health and wellbeing of our staff and improve the air quality for everyone in Greater Manchester was acknowledged.
