Green Impact Awards 2019

On 20 November, staff and students across the University came together in the Whitworth Hall for the Green Impact Awards 2019. The Awards recognise and celebrate their achievements over the past year, and marked the 10th year of the programme.

Green Impact is an international behaviour change programme designed to support environmentally and socially sustainable practice in organisations and has been practised across the University for the past decade. Over this period 24,000 actions addressing sustainability and social justice issues have been completed, involving more than 5,600 members of staff.

During the ceremony a total of 80 awards were handed out, with a record number, 42, at Gold standard this year. Students were also acknowledged for their important role in supporting Green Impact over the course of the year, with 84 students being involved gaining transferable employability skills in sustainability.

The ceremony included a panel of the University’s Environmental Sustainability leaders who shared their ambitions for the coming years in biodiversity, air travel, carbon and single use plastics, and highlighted the importance of collaborative staff and student action to achieve these opportunities.

The 2018/19 programme was the final year of Green Impact at the University. We are currently in the final development stages of incorporating team-based activity into the award-winning 10,000 Actions platform. We will be launching this in the New Year and are looking for teams to be involved in the trial.
