Memory Walk

The University’s Walking for Health group, Lunchtime Strollers, has been going for over six years and been involved in numerous events over the years. Walking for Health is run by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support. The aim is to help more people, including those affected by cancer, discover the joys and health benefits of walking.

During September the group is busy raising awareness and funds for two great charities.

On Friday 16 September there was a Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Society. Colleagues joined together to celebrate loved ones affected by dementia. Dementia Friends, run by the Alzheimer’s Society, is also one of the University’s Social Responsibility flagship programmes.

On Friday 30 September a number of the Lunchtime Strollers will be walking 10k across Manchester on a “Culture Crawl” to raise funds for Maggie’s cancer centres. Maggie’s offer free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Manchester’s local Maggie’s centre opened in April this year at the Christie Hospital.
