White Helmets documentary screening

As part of the ESRC’s Festival of Social Science 2017 and one of our global inequalities research beacon public events for The University of Manchester, the University will be hosting a free film screening of the Oscar winning documentary, The White Helmets.

Taking place on Tuesday 7 November at 6pm in Manchester Museum, the documentary – directed by The University of Manchester alumnus Orlando von Einsiedel – follows the Syrian Civil Defence forces rescuing those caught in the crossfire of the country’s civil war.

In the five years since the conflict began, more than 250,000 Syrians have died – but thanks to the White Helmets, over 60,000 lives have been saved.

The screening will be followed by a discussion hosted by Professor Tim Jacoby of the Global Development Institute. His research interests focus on conflict analysis, political violence, nationalism, peace, and historical sociology.
