The University of Manchester is a world-leading university and part of an internationally significant city. With more international students than any other UK University our community of staff, students and alumni stretches across the globe.

The research we carry out carries a global importance, addressing some of the worlds most significant challenges.

We aim to attract the best students from around the world, regardless of their background. Our Equity and Merit Scholarships assists talented but economically disadvantaged students from some of the world’s poorest countries. Scholarships, jointly funded by the University and its donors, are available for academically excellent young professionals from Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.

Our flagship overseas volunteering programme Team Uganda, run in collaboration with S.A.L.V.E. (Support and Love Via Education) International, has delivered projects in environmental, IT and community research. You can find out more about their experiences of the Team Uganda volunteers on their blog.

There is a range of advice for students available from the University including advice on how to find your own volunteering opportunities and links to funding options such as the Global Impact Awards and travel awards. Students who are interested in other overseas volunteering opportunities can also get involved through our list of trusted charity partners.
