MAP 2023 officially launches

MAP studentsThe Manchester Access Programme (MAP) officially launched in April with 657 students from across Greater Manchester being selected for and registering on the programme.

MAP is the University’s flagship post-16 widening participation programme for Y12 students from Greater Manchester. MAP students took part in one of our on-campus ‘Start your journey’ events on 3 & 4 April. ‘Start your journey’ is the first module of the programme and for many of the MAP students, it was their first time visiting the University.

Students received a welcome lecture, information on choosing the right course for them, a professional communications skills workshop and a campus tour led by our student ambassadors.

The feedback from students was really positive. One student fed back that they “found the event really useful and engaging. I now feel a greater sense of belonging” whilst another student said: “I really enjoyed the event and meeting new people. I now have a better understanding about MAP and University as a whole”.

Module 2 of MAP is the ‘Academic Module: Research, Reference, Write’. For Module 2, students need to write and pass a 1,500-word academic assignment in a subject of their choice, as well as attending a compulsory research and referencing skills lecture. Each student will receive one-to-one support with the writing process from a MAP Tutor who is an academic in the field of their assignment subject. We are delighted to have around 160 MAP tutors supporting the programme this year.
