Come and share your digging stories informally to explore what digging means to you, your community and our society.

Saturday 8 March 2014, 11.00-14.00, Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester, M2 5NS

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

What does digging mean to you? From the 17th Century Diggers’ Movement, to the Wartime ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign, we are witnessing a resurgence of digging and digging related activities across a range of media and government policy tools.

How might digging shape and reshape our values? In times of austerity and increased concerns around food and the environment, digging offers opportunities to rethink our values and our communities.

Find out more about the cultural values of digging – as evidenced through ‘digging’ projects in the North West of England: The Big Dig, The Wigan Diggers’ Festival and the Wartime Gardeners.

Reasonable travel expenses (up to £25 per person) will be reimbursed.

This event and the research project are supported by the AHRC Cultural Value project.
