We invite you to join us for our second national conference on Educating for PPI and Engagement, taking place 4 October 2012, London South Bank University.

The first conference was held in October 2011 and provided an opportunity to explore the educational implications of implementing patient and public involvement and engagement. Over the past year we have been in touch with many colleagues up and down the country who are exploring similar ideas which focus on the design and delivery of educational programmes for patients and service users and their organisations. We are excited by the diversity of activity both within the formal HE sector, as well as in the community, and healthcare workplaces.

This event will be an opportunity to continue conversations on teaching, learning and research all of which will contribute to advancing our understanding of the discipline of PPI and Engagement. With the passing of the Health and Social Care Act 2012, we face a future in which there will be opportunities and challenges. We hope you share our vision that PPI is a collaborative enterprise in which we are all creatively involved.

A full programme will be available shortly. However, confirmed contributors to the conference are:

  • Joan Saddler, National Director for Patient and Public Affairs at the Department of Health
  • Peter Knight, Deputy Director, Head of Research Information and Intelligence, Research and Development Directorate, Department of Health
  • Andy Williamson, Chair, Kidney Patients Association and the Huddersfield Buddies (patient coaches from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary)
