I met the team running the Manchester Science Festival last week and wanted to circulate some news…

Manchester Science Festival will be held from 23 Oct – 2 Nov 2014. The events and installations planned sound really exciting, with many contributions from the University of Manchester. The programme is being released on 3 Sept and you’ll see flyers/brochures around the city from Sept and all the details online: http://www.manchestersciencefestival.com/.

Do you use 3D printing?
The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) will be hosting a new exhibition about 3D printing from Oct 2014 and they are looking for researchers who use 3D printing. This is great opportunity to showcase your work and they promise they won’t need much of your time. If you are interested in getting involved, please email: msf@mosi.org.uk.

What gets you ‘Hooked on Music’ ?
A ‘Citizen Science’ project is exploring which pieces of music are most catchy. You can test yourself on this addictive website and app: http://www.hookedonmusic.org.uk/. The data gathered is being used by researchers to investigate long term musical memory and it’s hoped that this will lead to therapeutic benefits for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Would you like to volunteer?
The Festival will be looking for volunteers in the next month, so if you are interested in this opportunity keep your eye on the Festival website for updates. Full training and support will be provided.
