Engaging with local ethnic and linguistic communities: A one-day workshop sponsored by Multilingual Manchester and the Higher Education Academy
We are inviting abstract submissions for a one-day workshop that will take place at The University of Manchester on Tuesday, 26 March 2013. The event will be devoted to sharing good practice on undergraduate and postgraduate modules that flag engagement with local minority ethnic and linguistic communities. Presentations should outline one or a number of modules that incorporate this theme:
- How the module contributes to enhancing the student learning experience, to boosting student employability, and to improving student satisfaction and engagement
- Strategies for improving links with communities currently underrepresented in UK Higher Education
- The module’s contribution to the widening participation and social responsibility agenda
- Opportunities offered by the module to evidence ‘impact’ of academic work, e.g. by informing and shaping local policies on multilingualism, raising the visibility of marginalised groups in society, etc.
