Students, staff and alumni run in the Purple Wave for FREE

Students, staff and alumni can run for free in this year’s Great Manchester Run when they commit to fundraising to help young people from Greater Manchester to access a world-class education.

The University’s Undergraduate Access Scholarships support young people like Hallie, who thought her chance to go to university was lost when she became pregnant at 15. After growing up in one of the poorest parts of the UK, she was able to take up a place at the University thanks to her determination and the support from an Undergraduate Access Scholarship.

These scholarships are entirely funded by donations, and help bright students from low-income or disadvantaged backgrounds to study here.

The Great Manchester Run takes place on Sunday, 20 May, and the University will have its own start time, creating a ‘Purple Wave’ of 3,000 runners. All those who register will receive a purple technical running t-shirt to wear on the day.

  • Staff and alumni may register for free when they commit to raising £100 for Undergraduate Access Scholarships. To take up this offer, register here.
  • Students must sign up and pay their registration fee through the Sport Manchester eStore. However, they can have this fee refunded when they raise £50 for Undergraduate Access Scholarships. They can set up a Just Giving page here.

Staff, students and alumni running for another cause, or none at all, are also invited to sign up. Discounted places are available can also register for a place in the Purple Wave at a discounted price. Sign up here.
