MUDAE, our new dental society with social responsibility at its root

The Manchester University Dental Awareness and Empowerment (MUDAE) society have been working hard alongside Dr Raj Ariyaratnam to set up their exciting new society which will be part of our University’s social responsibility plan for 2020-25.

The overall aim of MUDAE is to have a positive impact on the University community and the surrounding local population by raising awareness about dental health, diseases and prevention by empowering people to take their oral health more seriously.

Due to the ongoing pandemic the society has mainly been established online. There’s an Instagram page for the local community, this providesd different types of content such as short, informative videos to encourage followers to get involved. The videos are based on common public complaints regarding oral hygiene as well as general health as a way to improve the overall oral and general health within Manchester.

The Society believe the videos will be a great way to spread dental awareness and influence a strong, positive impact on the health of the general public. They are encouraging tutors and students from other healthcare societies to take part in the videos too.

So far, thee Society have spoken to a range of different communities and have organised Zoom webinars to present to their audiences. One example includes the society organising a 2-part virtual ‘Dental Awareness’ talk in a collaboration with the ‘Rethink Rebuild Society’.

MUSAE plan to host more presentations that will have a greater impact on the overall local population. To find out more and support the society follow their Instagram page @mudae_soc.
