Fall in love with volunteering this Student Volunteering Week

Love is in the air, but we’re not talking about Valentines! This year, the University is celebrating Voluntine’s at Student Volunteering Week.

Now in its 20th year, the national campaign which is ran by universities across the country is hosting the event from Monday, 8 February – Sunday, 14 February to celebrate all things volunteering.

The University of Manchester’s Volunteering team in partnership with the Students’ Union, will be offering a range of digital sessions where students can get a taste for volunteering.

This year, students can try it first hand by creating postcards which will be sent to ill children via the charity Postpals, and taking part in a virtual community mapping project based in Uganda. In addition to volunteering activities, the event will also be hosting several talks from key speakers on ethical international volunteering, Stellify and careers.

As we continue the fight against COVID19, the event will also offer practical advice on how students can still make a difference in the midst of the pandemic. This year more than ever, has shown just how important volunteers are and in celebration, the volunteering team will be sending out hundreds of digital Voluntine’s cards to student volunteers to show their appreciation.

Please give shout outs to any of our students who’ve helped this year, on our social media channels @uomvolunteering and spread the love for volunteering.

See the Student Volunteering Week event page for more information and contact the Volunteering and Community Engagement team if you have any questions.
