Student Volunteering Fair
Each year, The University of Manchester holds a Volunteering Fair, to give new students the chance to explore volunteering opportunities across Greater Manchester and beyond. This year’s Volunteering Fair was a huge success, bringing together students and a wide variety of charities and not-for-profit organisations. Held in partnership with the Students’ Union, the event welcomed almost 750 students (a significant increase from last year!), all eager to discover ways to give back to the community, gain experience, and make meaningful connections.
Over 80 organisations and charities joined us on the day, representing a diverse range of causes and opportunities. From environmental and animal welfare groups like Ardwick Climate Action and Cats Protection, to charities supporting young people, arts, culture, and community development – there was truly something for everyone. Some of our international partners including EcoSwell and Travelteer also came along to promote volunteering overseas.
The atmosphere in the hall was lively yet relaxed, with students enjoying the chance to chat directly with representatives from the variety of volunteering organisations there. Many were inspired, which was reflected in the significant increase in students applying for volunteering opportunities throughout the week of the event.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who made the fair possible — from the organising team, particularly Frances Muscatelli-Hampson and Amelia Hart, to the enthusiastic students attending and committed partner organisations. The fantastic turnout highlights the growing enthusiasm for social action across our university community.
