Connecting people, ideas and disciplines: a new film showcases Manchester’s Platforms

“Our differences can feel like barriers. But they’re also where new understanding and creativity begin. When we connect them, we expand what’s possible.”

A new film celebrates how The University of Manchester’s Research Platforms, Creative Manchester, Digital Futures, Healthier Futures and Sustainable Futures, connect people, expertise, and ideas across campus to address societal challenges and turn our research excellence into public good.

Introduced by Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research, the film launches alongside the University’s Research Delivery Plan. It brings together researchers, professional services colleagues and partners from across disciplines to address shared societal challenges, reflecting the Manchester 2035 – One University approach.

Filmed across laboratories, research spaces and University buildings, the film captures the breadth of Manchester’s expertise and shows how the Research Platforms bring people, disciplines and ideas together to tackle society’s most pressing problems.

That collaborative approach extends beyond the University, where the Research Platforms work with civic, community, policy, public and private sector partners to translate research into action, informing policy, shaping practice and delivering public benefit.
