Cardiologist featured in National Heart Week Campaign

As part of June’s British Heart Foundation (BHF) Heart Week, Dr Kat Dibb, Senior Lecturer in the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at The University of Manchester, was among the academics featured in a joint University and BHF social media campaign highlighting cardiovascular research.

Heart and circulatory diseases remain the UK’s biggest killers, claiming more lives than cancer and Alzheimer’s combined. Every five minutes, someone is admitted to hospital due to a heart attack. Manchester, alongside Blackpool and Glasgow, is one of the hardest-hit regions but Dr Kat Dibb’s team are leading the charge for change.

At Manchester, Kat leads a dedicated team developing innovative solutions to reduce the impact of heart disease. These include digital heart failure care pathways that are lowering NHS hospital admissions, and research into how pollutants like polyaromatic hydrocarbons affect heart function. The work they are doing in Manchester is helping to inform policies and healthcare solutions globally.
