Celebrating Professor Dawn Edge: Representation, Inclusion and Community
We’re delighted to celebrate Professor Dawn Edge, Professor of Mental Health and Inclusivity at The University of Manchester, whose work and contribution are being recognised across several high-profile publications and creative projects celebrating Black voices and experiences in Britain.
Dawn was recently nominated by a colleague for inclusion in BHM 2026 magazine, recognising her contribution to the University and wider community.
She also features in the forthcoming Portrait of Black Briton exhibition at Aviva Studios, presented by Factory International, which celebrates the lives, experiences and contributions of Black Britons through portraiture and storytelling.
Dawn also features in the latest edition of Keep The Faith, sharing her experiences and perspectives as a Christian working in academia.
Professor Natalie Gardiner, Vice Dean for Social Responsibility in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health said: “I am delighted to see Dawn’s contributions recognised. Dawn’s research excellence and community and civic engagement and inclusion is matched by her drive and impact towards creating a more inclusive University, acting as our previous University academic lead for EDI (race, religion & belief). Dawn is a shining example of how academic excellence and inclusive leadership comes together to bring about real change and inspire others’’
Dawn’s recognition is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate her achievements, while also highlighting the importance of representation and visibility across our University community. Her work spans mental health, inclusivity, equality and community engagement – areas that are central to the Faculty’s commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, represented and able to contribute.
Her story also provides an opportunity to celebrate the many different voices, experiences and achievements within FBMH and to continue our conversations around race equality, belonging and inclusion.
We’re proud to see Dawn’s work and contribution recognised in these different spaces and look forward to celebrating her continued impact both within the University and beyond.
