Film screening: The Success of Moss Side
The University of Manchester is proud to be supporting the film screening of ‘The Success of Moss Side’, by Director Elmi Ali and producer Baka Bah.
The Success of Moss Side is a documentary that challenges the misconceptions and perceived narrative of Moss Side as a poverty and crime ridden area. Various insights are shown including intimate community portraits: a football coach nurturing dreams, a mother channelling grief into activism, and a music producer weaving the area’s soul into sound.
After the screening there will be a Q&A chaired by Dawn Edge, the panel will include:
- Linford Sweeney, Black History Researcher/Educator, Caribbean Genealogist, Mentor, Life Coach and Author.
- Former Manchester Metropolitan film student and producer – Baka Bah, Co-founder and Director of SNE Studios,
- Ahmed Yassin, Baka’s former football coach and community leader who is part of the documentary focusing football in the community
- Elmi Ali, Director, educator, writer and performer
- Ahmed Abdi, Co- Director at SNE Studios
