Give It Don’t Bin It
As student tenancies come to an end for this academic year, we’re working to support our students to sort through their things and donate unwanted, good-quality items to charity through the Give It Don’t Bin It campaign.
Now entering its 14th year, the campaign is a collaboration across The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, both Students’ Unions and Manchester City Council. The aim is simple – to make donating items to charity as straightforward as possible for our students!
Students can donate good-quality items at one of the permanent donation points on or off campus, or at one of the pop-up donation points on 29 and 30 June. Donations will go to the British Heart Foundation, Fallowfield & Withington Foodbank and the Bideford Centre in Wythenshawe.
You can find lots more information about the campaign, including what can be donated, on the Give It Don’t Bin It website.
Last year Manchester students’ donations generated over £204,000 for the British Heart Foundation – the equivalent of two state-of the art microscopes, allowing researchers to see inside heart and blood vessel cells. Last year over 100 tonnes of unwanted items were diverted from landfill and this year we hope to increase the amount donated and reduce the waste even further.
