Great Science Share for Schools awarded UNESCO Patronage for 2026

The Univesity’s Science and Engineering Education Research and Inovation Hubs’s (SEERIH) Great Science Share for Schools (GSSfS) campaign has once again been awarded Patronage by the UK National Commission for UNESCO for 2026. This is its third consecutive year of recognition and endorses the campaign’s commitment to inclusivity and its alignment with UNESCO’s core values in science, education, and culture.

Professor Lynne Bianchi, Campaign Director, shared her reflections on this achievement: “We are delighted to receive this endorsement from UNESCO. Their patronage enhances the collaborative growth of GSSfS across the EU through new strategic partnerships which means more 5–14-year-olds gaining high-quality opportunities to work scientifically!”

Great Science Share for Schools shows continued positive impact on pupils’ learning

We are also pleased to announce the release of the Great Science Share for Schools External Evaluation Report, conducted by ImpactEd. Key findings celebrate the success of the campaign that now reaches over 800,000 young people in 50+ countries.

Pupils participating in GSSfS:

  • are more likely to engage in reflexive, self-questioning behaviour during their learning process through involvement in the scientific method.
  • scored 6% higher than matched comparison groups for resilience, showing that GSSfS encourages pupils to be tenacious and problem solve.
  • had outcomes that were relatively even across genders and socio-economic groups, continuing to enhance the widening of access to science and engineering for all.

The GSSfS team are assured by these findings and continue to grow the campaign that will culminate this year on 16 June 2026.
