Electric cargo bikes at The University of Manchester
The Residences Administration Team are riding high after a successful trial with an electric cargo bike.
Through the EU funded Triangulum project, electric cargo bikes are available to hire free of charge to staff at the University and businesses along the Oxford Road Corridor.
Lindsay Hurd, Residences Administration Coordinator explains: “I got in touch with Manchester Bike Hire, who are delivering the loan scheme, and organised a demonstration session. I discussed my requirements and was able to test drive various models to find the one I was most comfortable using.”
“The bike has a battery fitted making it easy to ride, fast and no effort required when pedalling uphill. The cargo box fitted is able to hold the folders plus other bits and pieces needed as I travel between North Campus and Fallowfield.”
“The cycle lanes on Oxford Road have helped improve my confidence the more I have used them. I’m really enjoying using an electric bike and would definitely encourage other members of staff to try out the scheme.”

Triangulum
The Triangulum project partners in Manchester are working together to create a smart city district within Corridor Manchester. This includes increasing the number of electric vehicles and electric bikes being used, reducing reliance on diesel and petrol vehicles and in turn reducing carbon emissions, traffic congestion and pollution.
