Our top five stories in November

Here are five highlights from our November newsletter.

Firstly, the University has launched Challenge Accepted, our first major global fundraising and volunteering campaign, designed to drive transformative change across research, student support, innovation and culture and back bold solutions to the world’s most pressing problems.

We are delighted to announce that we have retained a global top 10 position in this year’s QS World University Sustainability Rankings. With an overall score of 98 out of 100, Manchester is now 10th globally and 5th in the UK in recognition of its ability to tackle the world’s greatest environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges.

Earlier this month we brought students together from across Greater Manchester for our Green Careers Mission, an interactive programme aimed at developing the skills and confidence required for young people to thrive in the expanding green economy. Students produced practical solutions to real-world challenges, including home retrofitting, community resilience, and sustainable consumption.

Applications have recently opened for the Manchester Access Programme (MAP), our flagship widening participation initiative for Year 12 students in Greater Manchester. Through MAP students recieve advice and guidance on their UCAS offers, a reduced offer of up to two A-Level grades below the standard entry requirement and the Undergraduate Access Schoalrship if they study an undergraduate course at The University of Manchester.

Finally, our annual Making a Difference Awards is officially open for entries and nominations. Every year we’re inspired by the individuals and teams improving lives, strengthening communities and driving positive change. So, if you or someone you know is making an impact, we’d love to hear from you!
