Talk 200 inspires global audience
Reaching audiences worldwide
Since launching last February, as part of a suite of activities to mark The University of Manchester’s bicentenary year, our Talk 200 lecture and podcast series has reached a wide global audience, drawing views and listens from more than 65 countries throughout 2024.
Launched to celebrate the University’s bicentenary, Talk 200 has brought together leading voices to reflect on key societal issues including health inequalities, climate change, social justice and innovation.
Listeners and viewers from across the globe tuned in throughout the year to hear about critical advancements of the past, the latest in cutting-edge developments today, and what the future holds in store.
A platform for social responsibility
World-renowned experts, such as guest lecturer Professor Sir Chris Whitty, England’s Chief Medical Officer, and our own Chancellor Nazir Afzal and Professor Alice Larkin, a climate science leader, have featured alongside a mix of students, alumni, and academics in six podcasts and four live lectures.
The series highlighted The University of Manchester’s role in addressing key social responsibility themes, including better health, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
Addressing pressing challenges
The four lectures were held in person and live-streamed, with highlights including:
- Health: Chris Whitty opened the series in February with a powerful lecture on health inequalities, underlining the need to tackle disparities in communities like Manchester.
- Environment: Professor Mike Shaver explored the future of plastics and sustainable solutions.
- Equality: Chancellor Nazir Afzal joined a panel discussing access to justice.
- Education: The final event in November reflected on the University’s commitment to widening access to education.
- The podcast episodes tackled urgent topics such as climate action, digital innovation, and health technology, showcasing the University’s commitment to creating prosperous communities and driving cultural engagement.
