Free bus service trial to reduce Manchester’s congestion and emissions
As part of our commitment to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly Manchester, we are excited to announce the launch of a new free bus service for our staff and students. This initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion, cut air pollution, and lower greenhouse gas emissions in collaboration with key local partners.
Launching on 6 May for a six-week trial, the service will provide free travel on the 41 bus from Manchester Victoria Station to our University Campus.
By encouraging public transport use within our university community, we aim to reduce reliance on private vehicles and support Greater Manchester’s environmental strategies, including the Oxford Road Corridor initiative. This initiative is one of many steps towards improving air quality and creating a healthier, more sustainable city.
We will closely monitor usage during the trial and, if uptake is strong, work towards making it a permanent sustainable travel option. We are proud to be part of Manchester’s journey to a greener future and look forward to the positive impact this initiative will bring.
