University of Manchester partnership with GM Citizens
The University of Manchester continues to build its collaboration with Greater Manchester Citizens, the region’s alliance of community, faith, education, health and third‑sector organisations.
Over recent years, the University has worked closely with GM Citizens to develop local partnerships built on mutual needs. This work includes contributions to campaigns on youth mental health, tackling discrimination, and improving support for those on low income, all key issues identified through extensive community listening undertaken by GM Citizens.
The partnership continues to grow, with University colleagues contributing insights, participating in research collaborations, and engaging in alliance-wide discussions to shape more equitable outcomes for Greater Manchester residents.
A growing mutual priority is supporting social cohesion across GM Citizen, with GM Citizens members and academics, such as Professor Hilary Pilkington, using their collective expertise to support community members with this work.
If you would like to get involved, you can join the GM Citizens Assembly on 12 February 2026, when GM Citizens will host its next major Delegates Assembly at 5.30–7.45pm.
The University of Manchester community – staff, students and partners, are invited to attend and take part in shaping collective action for a fairer Greater Manchester. To register to attend the Assembly, please contact mags.bradbury@manchester.ac.uk
