Our Conversations with the Public

On 20 May staff and students from the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences showcased their incredible variety of conversations with the public through their public engagement activities, using a diverse range of methods.

Widening Participation Fellows Impact on the Local Community

Manchester Medical School students Jess Azmy and Umair Gondal have delivered and developed an innovative workshop as University Widening Participation Fellows (WP Fellows) to encourage pre-GCSE students from state schools across Greater Manchester to consider medicine.

Cultural Explorers Programme

Our Cultural Explorers Programme, aims to provide access to four of the University’s cultural institutions for all 9 year olds from the primary schools located in the local areas of Ardwick, Hulme, Moss Side, Rusholme and Longsight.

John Dalton 250th Anniversary Sportive

A team of staff and students from the University’s Dalton Nuclear Institute and its Dalton Cumbrian Facility are cycling 143 miles from Cumbria to Manchester on 7&8 July to celebrate the life and achievements of John Dalton and raise money for the Stroke Association.

Children from 20 schools join forces to create musical robots

Children from 20 schools across Greater Manchester have joined forces with engineers from Siemens, music experts from the Hallé Orchestra and academics from The University of Manchester to create musical robots for the University’s ‘robot orchestra’ project.

Give & Gain Day

On Friday 20 May, more than a dozen teams from across the University took part in Business in the Community’s (BiTC) Give & Gain Day, the global day of employee volunteering.
