Alliance Manchester Business School hosts inaugural Social Responsibility symposium

Staff and students from across the University came together at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) on 11 May for a series of lectures and panel discussions on social responsibility.

The event was developed by Hongwei He, Professor of Marketing and Director of Social Responsibility at the business school along with the wider AMBS social responsibility committee.

Discussions included:

  • improving the University’s ranking against the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals whilst highlighting some problematic metrics for large scale Higher Education
  • interdisciplinary working and problems with scalability
  • an introduction to the Sustainable Futures platform
  • why a growth mindset contradicts life on a shrinking planet
  • aiming for net-positive rather than net-zero
  • how future higher education courses should be designed with social responsibility in mind
  • the importance of everyone’s individual experience in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
  • how a 12-month pilot in the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) is promoting sustainable travel around the world.
