Holocaust Memorial Day

27 January is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution and in the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. On Holocaust Memorial Day, we honour the survivors and challenge ourselves to use the lessons of their experience and to consider what part we can play in challenging hatred and creating a safer, better future.

Manchester schools participate in the commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day supported every year by the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre. Manchester secondary schools, represented by 112 students and 16 teachers, joined the civic event at HOME on 27 January, with students reading the annual ‘Statement of Commitment’ and Pastor Niemoller’s poem ‘First They Came’. Two activity days were organised in Manchester Central Library for ninety children from local primary schools, while assemblies and workshops have also been delivered in local schools.
