Manchester Migration Month

Throughout October the University hosted its first-ever #UoMmigration Month – a series of events, activities and features exploring migration’s relationship with inequalities, social justice, belonging and Brexit. Here are some of the highlights.

As part of this, our Manchester Migration Lab, which brings together over 70 researchers across a range of disciplines, held an inaugural international conference entitled ‘World on the Move’. This three-day conference featured a keynote lecture from Professor Nina Glick-Schiller and Professor Rob Ford exploring Brexit and migration.

In addition, the University’s prestigious Foundation Day lecture was delivered by refugee and Politics alumnus Gulwali Passarlay.

The culmination of the month sees TakeBack Theatre’s production of Be//Longing – a showcase of Manchester Migration Lab’s research through performance. Be//Longing uses immersive installations, an exhibition, dance, music and video alongside scripted theatre to create an experience that explores perceptions of migration and expose myths.

Be//Longing runs from 31 October to 4 November at Hope Mill Theatre, Ancoats.
