University shortlisted for two Times Higher Education Awards

Each year the THE editorial team ask their data colleagues to take a fresh look at the data they collect for their suite of world rankings to find patterns of information that reveal something not necessarily obvious in their published results.

For this year’s THE DataPoints Merit Award, they used data submitted by UK institutions for the inaugural University Impact Rankings to explore their success in meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr Julian Skyrme, Director of Social Responsibility, said: “We’re very pleased to be shortlisted for the THE DataPoints Merit Award, which is proactively shortlisted by the THE editorial team outside of the usual application process. This is in recognition of the breadth of information we compiled for their inaugural University Impact Rankings, where our impact against the UN Sustainable Development Goals was ranked first in the Europe and third in the world”.

In addition, the University has also been recognised for our contribution to The Urban Observatory in the Research Project of the Year: STEM category. The project is led by Newcastle University in collaboration with the universities of Birmingham, Bristol, Cranfield, Manchester and Sheffield.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday, 28 November.
