Our top five stories in September

Here are five highlights from our first social responsibility newsletter of the year.

First, we have created a new film showcasing ten standout social responsibility initiatives from the past year, shining a spotlight on how the University is driving real change and making a difference in our communities.

Earlier this month the University launched The Bright Idea, a landmark solar project that delivers up to 65% of the university’s annual electricity from a new 104,000-panel solar farm. This initiative will cut scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions by 25% and saving about 12,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

We are delighted to announce that the University is a finalist for two Green Gown Awards, which celebrate exceptional sustainability initiatives in higher education. We’ve been shortlisted for transforming the Old Quad into a climate-resilient green space, and for our Furniture4Reuse store.

The University has recently been reaccredited with University of Sanctuary status, recognising our ongoing commitment to supporting sanctuary seekers. The National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL) has also renewed our Quality Mark, underlining dedicated support for students with care experience or who are estranged.

Lastly, watch our film where we review our 200 for 200: Bicentenary Inclusive Recruitment initiative,  which provided meaningful employment opportunities to members of our local community.
