Furniure4Reuse store
The University of Manchester’s Furniture4Reuse store extends the life and value of surplus furniture across the University and into the wider community.
Furniture4Reuse manages all unwanted furniture from across campus. Instead of items going to waste, the team ensures they are reused by staff, students, charities and community groups. Last year, 56.735 tonnes of furniture were reused within the University, representing £420,606 of savings on furniture purchases.
The impact reaches beyond campus, as charities and community organisations can also access the store. During the 24/25 academic year these groups reused 27.204 tonnes of furniture, with an equivalent value of £182,095.
By reusing surplus furniture, the store also supports our environmental sustainability commitments. Last academic year an estimated 226 tonnes of CO₂ were saved through reuse, equivalent to the amount of carbon absorbed by 10,270 mature trees in one year.
This short video shares more information about the store and highlights how the University initiatives Biko Bikes and Essentials have used Furniture4Reuse to equip their spaces and support their services.
