AI and transport seminar
The University’s Policy@Manchester’s GM Policy Hub is hosting a seminar on 15 February 2024, which will focus on artificial intelligence in transport and its impact on urban and transport planning.
Speakers include Professor Ransford A. Acheampong, Senior Lecturer in Transport and Urban Futures at The University of Manchester, and Sam Li, Senior Innovation Officer at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). The event will be chaired by Professor Cecilia Wong, Policy@Manchester’s Academic Co-Director and Professor of Spatial Planning at The University of Manchester, and will include opportunities for Q&A and networking.
Experts agree that automated driving technologies will create perhaps the most significant transformation in urban and transport planning since the invention of the private motor vehicle. At the seminar, we will discuss the ways that AI applications in the transport sector could help unlock opportunities that are crucial to Greater Manchester’s long-term growth and prosperity and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality, and the challenges that AI applications may also bring.
As automated driving technologies are introduced gradually into cities, urban planning has a critical role to play in predicting and mediating difficulties with the transition. The seminar will include discussion about recommendations for how policymakers can address local needs and priorities.
