Faculty of Humanities partners with The Access Project

The University’s Faculty of Humanities is proud to announce a new partnership with The Access Project, an organisation that supports young people from under-resourced backgrounds to raise their aspirations, access top universities and achieve social mobility.

We recognise that campus visits are a pivotal factor in young people’s decision making when it comes to applying to university. Through supporting The Access Project’s university trips provision, we will ensure that more students from backgrounds underrepresented at university, have the opportunity to experience campus life and make informed choices about their futures.

Our first visit welcomed 60 students from Darwen, Bradford and Birmingham. Students learned more about the University, took part in a campus tour, engaged with current students and participated in taster sessions delivered by academic staff from BA Religions, Theology and Ethics and BSc IT Management for Business. One student found the visit “really useful in getting an insight into what it would be like to be a student at Manchester”, whilst another found the day “thought provoking and ‘interesting.”

The partnership aims to support The Access Project in reaching 20,000 young people by 2029, whilst further strengthening the Faculty’s commitment to social responsibility through widening access to the University.
