How our work impacts the Sustainable Development Goals

A quick survey to show how we are tackling the Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world’s call to action on the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing humanity and the natural world, and we’re playing a leading role in tackling them.

Part of our work addressing the SDGs includes reporting, measuring and evaluating our progress towards the goals. We are doing this through the publication of biannual SDG reports, reporting to the SDG Accord, taking part in SDG rankings and much more.

Since its inception in 2019, the quality and scale of our impact against the SDGs has been ranked in the top ten globally in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They use carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.

As the Rankings submission for this year draws closer, we’d like to ensure we have the most up-to-date showcase of the University’s work addressing the SDGs. We know that many of our University community are already playing an active role in achieving one or more of the 17 different SDGs  – be it through research, teaching, outreach work or professional services activities.

We are asking University staff, students and alumni to share any recent examples of how they are contributing to the SDGs by filling in this short survey by Friday 7 October 2022. The survey takes less than 10 minutes per example to complete.
