Launch of new Manchester Museum official podcast
Manchester Museum launches its official podcast on 26 October. In the first episode, special guest Kwame Boateng from the Black Curriculum talks about the work they are doing to get black history taught in schools 365 days of the year.
The idea behind the podcast is to bring new voices to some of the big issues of our time. The first series will have a clear focus on colonial history; the untold stories, multiple histories and the ‘things they didn’t teach us’.
In each episode, we will welcome a special guest and will share an open and honest conversation, which is hoped will inform, entertain and inspire. These conversations will help to reframe how Manchester Museum cares and takes action.
In the first episode we ask “Are we honest about our history?” looking at what can be gained from learning stories that are often overlooked. Kwame discusses the power of storytelling and the idea of history as a living and ever-changing entity. Manchester Museum considers how museums can tackle some of the more problematic aspects of their own histories.
Museum collections help us learn about the past, and through sharing ideas and lived experiences, this new podcast will explore the role that museums can play in understanding and shaping our present and future together.
We are ready to listen, learn and share, and invite listeners to tune in, join the conversation and do the same.
The first series of The Manchester Museum Podcast will begin on 26 October 2020 and will be broadcast fortnightly. There will be a link to the podcast on the Museum website.
